Rooster Portrait Hour

The flock had the afternoon to themselves, and the roosters went right up to the s7 camera. From mid-afternoon into evening, one bird after another stepped up to the lens and stared straight down it.

The day's best moment came at 18:16. A white rooster with a bright red comb and wattles stood tall and faced the camera head-on, and it got two reactions, more than any other frame today. Earlier ones were kept too: at 16:57 a black rooster with a glossy head and a flowing tail, its comb and eye in sharp view, and at 17:36 a rooster in black, white and rust feathers, alert and looking right at us.

The turkeys spent time with the roosters. At 15:25 a black-and-white rooster with a bright red comb stood next to a brown turkey. At 16:00 a colorful rooster stood in the yard with a pink-faced turkey. Around 17:00 a speckled black-and-white rooster stood watch. At 18:00 a dark rooster had its eye fixed on the lens with every feather in crisp detail, the last good light of the day.

Across all the cameras, more than fifteen thousand frames were captured today.
