This year we're building a permanent under-deck enclosure for the flock. No more patching the old prefab. Something built right, built to last.
Why We Build
The old prefab coop has been limping along for years. Tarp falling off. Wood rotting. It was barely adequate for a couple birds and we've got a full flock now — with more coming this spring.
The under-deck space is a natural enclosure: concrete deck overhead for weather protection, ~168 square feet of footprint, and just enough clearance for a person to stand inside and work. The goal is hardware cloth on all sides, proper framing, and a real gate. Predator-proof. Permanent.
