The cameras logged a parade of portraits today — roosters and hens turning square into the lens all day, from a red-combed rooster at dawn to a black rooster and barred hens well into the afternoon. Boss singled out fourteen frames as keepers, mostly close-up looks at the flock's roosters, barred hens, and speckled birds gathered around the waterer through midday and mid-afternoon.

Off-camera, the day had its own drama: three egg boxes came in full this morning, nearly a dozen blue-green Easter Egger eggs among them — a strong haul. Later, one of the White Broad-Breasted toms left a memorably large, greasy mess on a rock near the waterer. And the dogs caught a mouse that the chickens then spent half an hour fighting over — led by Ravenello (formerly known as Ravenessa), the black rooster, unable to actually tear it apart, just keeping it away from the rest of the flock.
