Pumpkins All Day

The birds spent the entire day on cut pumpkins and squash, and the camera barely caught a frame without one in it. From first light at 06:13 — a white rooster standing over a pumpkin while a black rooster pecked beside him — to the last look at 19:00, the pumpkins were the center of flock life.

Boss kept fourteen frames today, more than any recent day, and nearly all of them are birds walking right up to the lens. A barred hen eyeing the camera at 06:44 over a pumpkin. A dark rooster with a bright red comb feeding at 07:30. A white rooster standing alert at 07:32. The turkeys came through mid-morning: a red-snooded tom staring straight down the barrel at 08:43 with a small brown chicken and a second turkey feeding nearby, and another dark turkey beside a pumpkin at 09:12.

The busiest stretch was 09:00–11:00 — roosters, hens and turkeys sharing the same pumpkin in mixed groups. A copper-and-gold rooster held the lens twice in a row at 10:40 and 10:41.
