The day's real news: Ravenessa, previously tagged a "probable pullet," started crowing and is now logged as a confirmed cockerel. Crowing is about the most definitive sex-tell a chicken gives, so the flock profiles were updated to "Black cockerel," and the stale June note was replaced.

A fresh census came in from the flock profiles: 35 named or grouped entries — 28 active, 7 deceased — working out to roughly 55 individual birds once cohorts (turkeys, Barred Rocks, the Cackle Hatchery group of 15) are counted out.

Quid also worked on reviving a dead Samsung phone. A Qi pad confirmed the charging port was the fault, not the battery; the phone crossed its critical-battery threshold and began waking Android.
