The Turkeys Coming Into Their Own

Two sets of turkeys this morning, two stages of the same story.

The pair of mature white turkeys have grown into their full look — big red heads, the heavy wattles, the whole regal-and-ridiculous package. They carry themselves like they own the run, and at this point they more or less do.

Behind them, the two young gray-bronze poults are coming up fast. Their necks are just starting to bare, that first sign of the adult head taking shape under the down. Give them a few more weeks and they will be staring down the camera the same way the white pair does now.

Same flock, a season apart. Worth a frame while you can still tell them apart by age.
